Product Details
Compute Engine is the Google Cloud service for creating and running virtual machines, with preset or custom machine types for web servers, databases, AI, and more. The Compute Engine data store for Gemini sends search queries to the Compute Engine API and blends the results with other connected sources. Federated search is in public preview, and the searchable entity is Instances.
The Compute Engine remote MCP server lets agents create, start, stop, reset, and delete VM instances and change the machine type of a stopped instance. It also lists and describes instances, managed instance groups, instance templates, disks, images, machine and accelerator types, reservations, commitments, and snapshots.
Key Use Cases
AI-Driven Cloud Infrastructure Operations
Cloud operations teams orchestrate VM lifecycle events, adjust compute sizing, and inspect managed instance groups directly through conversational prompt workflows.
Capacity and Commitment Governance
FinOps analysts query regional reservations and commitments to ensure enterprise compute resources are fully allocated and prevent over-provisioning.
