Spanner is a Google Cloud database that combines relational, graph, key value, and search in one service, with no maintenance windows. The Spanner remote MCP server is a Google-hosted endpoint that gives AI agents tools to create, manage, and query Spanner resources. It is enabled when the Spanner API is enabled.
Agents can list and inspect instances, instance configurations, and databases, view a database schema, create or update instances, create databases, update schemas, run read-only or read-write SQL in a session, commit transactions, and check long-running operations. Sample requests include listing all instances in a project or showing the schema of the current database.
